The Point-by-Point Method · Why how you check matters

Don’t trust a chatbot’s guess. Don’t wait 48 hours for a forum.

Nearly 7 in 10 online shoppers have been tricked into buying a counterfeit believing it was genuine (MSU A-CAPP study across 17 countries), and ~1 in 11 luxury pieces screened in resale turns out to be fake (Entrupy State of the Fake). Waiting two days for a forum means losing the listing—or missing your 48-hour dispute window. Asking a general chatbot is worse: recent VLM studies show they output 90–95% confidence even when micro-details are wrong. LegitV checks each named point for that exact model and never counts a missing angle as a pass.

  • < 2 minfrom listing photos to verdict

Fast enough to check a piece before someone else buys it, or right as you open the parcel within the 48h dispute window.

  • 10×–20×less than a manual check service

€1.67 to €2.99 per check in credit packs (no subscription, credits never expire) vs. €25–€45+ for a manual single-item check.

  • 0blurry points counted as a match

If the seller hid or blurred a label, LegitV marks it Not seen and tells you the exact close-up to ask for before you pay.

Questions. Short answers.

What is LegitV and how does it work?

LegitV checks whether a second-hand fashion item is authentic from its photos. Pick the model, add the photos, and LegitV compares each detail against the checklist built for that exact reference. You get a verdict in minutes with every point explained: Match, Not seen, or Red flag.

Which brands and items can I check?

We currently cover 59 model checklists across sneakers, luxury bags, vintage denim and streetwear—including Nike, Air Jordan, Chanel, Hermès, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Celine, Balenciaga, Gucci, Prada, Stone Island, Supreme, New Balance and Levi’s 501. Search your model at the top of the page to see its checklist.

Can I use the photos from a Vinted, Vestiaire Collective, Grailed or eBay listing?

Yes—that is how most buyers use LegitV before paying. Upload the seller’s photos from the listing: LegitV checks every visible point, marks any missing or blurry detail as Not seen, and tells you the exact close-up photo to ask the seller for before you buy.

What should I do when my parcel arrives within the 48-hour buyer-protection window?

On peer-to-peer marketplaces like Vinted, you typically have 48 hours after delivery to report a counterfeit before your payment is released to the seller. Even if you checked the listing beforehand, run a check on your own unboxing photos to guard against bait-and-switch shipments, and attach the shareable report link to your dispute if a key point fails.

How is LegitV different from asking ChatGPT or a general visual chatbot?

A general chatbot looks at the whole photo at once and sounds confident even when the serial tag or size label is unreadable—averaging 9 clean exterior seams with 1 fake stamp into a reassuring 'looks authentic'. LegitV inspects named anatomical points for that exact model one by one, never counts a blurry angle as a match, and triggers an immediate veto when a Key (×3) point fails.

How is it different from a manual legit-check service or a forum?

A manual service costs €20 to €45 per item and takes 12 to 48 hours—by which time a good listing has often sold or your dispute window has narrowed. LegitV runs the model checklist in under 2 minutes for €1.67 to €2.99 per check, with every point and its weight written out.

How reliable is the verdict?

Each model checklist has up to 34 weighted checkpoints (Key ×3, Major ×2, Minor ×1) plus a list of blacklisted counterfeit serials and factory codes. A single red flag on a Key point is enough to flag a superfake. When too many points are hidden or blurry to decide safely, the report says so instead of guessing.

Can I check a vintage or worn piece, like a 1970s Levi’s 501 or a patinated bag?

Yes. Honest age wear—such as a faded heat stamp or a washed-out paper patch—is marked Not seen, never penalized as a fake. The verdict rests on the visible construction points (button-back factory stamps, rivet burrs, red tab weave, chainstitch hem), and when the model supports it, the report includes an estimated production era.

Can I share the report when I sell an item from my own wardrobe?

Yes. Every completed check has a permanent shareable link (/s/[id]) showing the verdict, the photos and every checked point. You can paste it into your Vinted, Vestiaire Collective, Grailed or eBay listing so buyers can make an offer with confidence.

How long does a check take, and what kind of photos do I need?

Under two minutes once you have the photos. You don’t need a special lens: natural daylight near a window (no flash glare) and a steady tap-to-focus shot from 10–15 cm away on the labels, stamps and hardware are enough.

How much does it cost, and do credits expire?

You pay per check with credit packs (€1.67 to €2.99 per check depending on pack size). There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and your credits never expire. If a check ever fails on our side, the credit is automatically refunded to your account.

Stop guessing. Start knowing.
